Considering the importance of oxygen to the leaching process and the remote location of the mine, NEWTEK decided to design the PSA oxygen concentrator in a 2 × 50% configuration. Due to the high ambient temperatures, which can reach up to 55 °C, a special cooling system was designed for the air compressor station to keep the feed air temperature of the PSA oxygen concentrator below 45 °C in all operating conditions.

The combination of gas expansion and reduced ZMS adsorption efficiency results in a significant performance degradation as the temperature increases compared to standard operating conditions of 20 °C.

The aforementioned maximum feed air temperature of 45 °C allows for the limited increase in size of the PSA oxygen concentrator that is necessary to compensate for this temperature effect and thus guarantee the required rated oxygen quality even at the highest ambient temperatures on site flow. Therefore, the PSA adsorption vessel must be insulated to avoid external heating of the PSA adsorption vessel by ambient air.

Due to the extreme environmental conditions and being installed outdoors, the PSA oxygen generation unit is remotely controlled from a Unit Control Panel (UCP) located in the mine's central control room, allowing for fully automated unattended operation. UCP is also designed and manufactured by NEWTEK.
