Onsite Oxygen Generation For Biogas Plants

Onsite Oxygen Generation For Biogas Plants

Biogas is a renewable biofuel that is naturally generated during the decomposition of organic matter such as plant residues, food waste and animal manure. It is also called biomass energy. The main components of biogas include methane, carbon dioxide, and small amounts of water, nitrogen, carbon monoxide and hydrogen. Biogas is released when organic matter is fermented in an oxygen-free (anaerobic) environment. Through the fermentation process, organic waste can be effectively decomposed and converted into usable energy, which is widely used in industry and agriculture to support the production of heat and electricity. However, if biogas is not desulfurized, especially to remove its alkaline sulfides, it may cause serious damage to fermentation equipment made of wood, concrete and metal and its pipes. Therefore, ensuring an effective biogas treatment process is key to ensuring the safety and longevity of equipment.

Why does a biogas plant need oxygen?

Oxygen plays a vital role in the desulfurization process of biogas plants and their internal equipment.
Biogas from some biomass sources contains higher sulfur content. This sulfur reacts with moisture in the biogas to form hydrogen sulfide, which in turn combines with water to form a highly corrosive and acidic mixture known as alkaline sulfides.
By adding oxygen to fermenters, facilities and storage tanks (a process known as biogas desulfurization), bacteria are encouraged to grow and microorganisms can effectively break down hydrogen sulfide. Oxygen acts as a neutralizer when it comes into contact with acidic and corrosive gases such as hydrogen sulfide.
This process is very important because the introduction of oxygen into biogas production can significantly reduce the corrosiveness of harmful components in the biogas, thereby protecting the process surfaces of the biogas plant, including pipe materials and storage tanks, and extending the service life of the equipment.

Onsite oxygen generation for biogas plants

Benefits of using oxygen generation in biogas plants

.

Reduce carbon footprint

By eliminating the carbon emissions generated during the transportation of oxygen cylinders, on-site oxygen generation helps reduce the overall carbon footprint and promote environmental sustainability.

Improve site safety standards

The potential risks of handling oxygen cylinders during transportation are eliminated, which improves site safety and ensures the health and safety of workers.

Functional flexibility

As long as there is a reliable power supply, oxygen generators are compatible with a variety of industrial facilities and can provide the required oxygen supply to meet different operational needs.

Reliability

The installation of an on-site oxygen generation system eliminates the reliance on traditional oxygen supplies, ensuring that the required oxygen is always available when needed without worrying about supply interruptions.
